Maria Mirenzi

Maria Mirenzi (she/her) is a dedicated and passionate early childhood educator and musician. She earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Temple University with a concentration in saxophone and jazz studies. During her time at Temple, Maria taught infant, toddler and preschool music classes with Early Childhood Music Foundations (ECMF). This was an eye-opening experience that set her on the path to pursuing a career in early childhood education. In addition to a PA teaching certificate for PK-12 Music, Maria has earned a Child Development Associates (CDA) credential and has training in Orff-Schulwerk, a developmentally play-based teaching approach combining music, movement, dramatic play and speech.

Since 2017, Maria has worn many different hats at PlayArts, including Education & Programs Director, Afterschool Director, Lead Teacher of PlayArts Creative Preschool, and PlayMusic teacher. Being a part of the PlayArts community is one of her greatest joys!

Maria’s past experience includes teaching K-8 general music in the School District of Philadelphia, teaching preschool and elementary music at Settlement Music School, and as a private woodwind instructor at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr. She was also an au pair for a very active family of four children in France — an invaluable experience where she learned a lot about raising young children in the home.

When not teaching, Maria dedicates the rest of her time to writing and performing her own music, recording in the studio, doing yoga, going for long walks, reading and cooking lots and lots of vegan food.
