Francesca Montanile is Philadelphia-based educator and artist who was born and raised in Puerto Rico. She works at the intersection of performance, education, and play. She has co-devised, performed, and/or directed many new theatrical works, such as Behind Closed Doors (2013), AntiGravity Theatre Project’s Nellie/Nellie (2014), Butter & Serve’s Slaughter/ette (2015), The Hopefuls (2015-2016), Fourth Quarter (2016), and Dear Diary LOL (2017). In addition to making devised work, she has been investigating the pedagogical power of theatre and play since co-founding Savvy Theatre Works (a process-based applied theatre program that ran from 2006-2012 in Bocas, Mexico). She has also worked as a teaching artist with Trinity Repertory Company, Providence Children’s Museum, AntiGravity Theatre Project, BuildaBridge International, University of the Arts, Brown/RISD CoLAB,Taller Puertorriqueño, Girls Leadership, and Children's Community School of West Philadelphia.
